High-level rapid assessment of potential value of migration to the cloud.

The purpose of the Business Value Assessment is to estimate the benefits which could be achieved by migrating existing platforms to the cloud.  More specifically, the value assessment summarises the costs, potential savings, and soft benefits in a clear and concise format to support making the case for change.  

The assessment takes as inputs high level IT budget information and generates an estimate of the value of moving systems to the cloud, based on an industry benchmark estimating model.  

The key output of this service is a financial model for a first stage (top-down) business case for cloud migration, with accompanying narrative.

Delivery process
  • Start with budget hypothesis based on publicly available information (annual report)
  • Discuss and prioritise organisation’s value drivers
  • Review budget hypothesis and tune the model
  • Identify portion of IT budget which is addressable by cloud transformation
  • Estimate the cost of change (migration, organisation change, training, technical foundations)
  • Estimate the range of post-migration running costs
  • Assess potential transformation benefits, based on value levers

They are intended as an aid to the person writing a business case for migration of systems to a cloud platform to provide a helpful starting point.

The business case narrative includes examples of the narrative elements of a typical business case:  benefits, delivery risks, and risks of not acting.
