Overview
The CCoE provides support and services to help NHS organisations adopt and optimise Cloud hosting arrangements.
The pages below describe the services offered by the NHS England CCoE, how they add value to a cloud journey, how they are delivered.
The CCoE provides services within three domains:
- access to public cloud capacity
- value-add service development and consulting aimed at internal application teams
- continuous CCoE platform and service development
Consultancy services
Cost Management / Financial Operations (FinOps)
Cloud adoption introduces significant changes to the way financial aspects of the IT service are managed.
Application cost profiling and optimisation
Analyse past, current and forecasted consumption and spend for a given application to identify opportunities to balance cost against performance.
Operational architecture support
Internal advice from CCoE architects on cloud implementation of applications. The focus will be on aligning the target solution to a proven implementation pattern.

NHS Cloud Exec level introduction

Capability maturity assessment
Interview based assessment of organisation capability readiness for cloud adoption across multiple functional domains
Business case
Top-down capture and analysis of costs, benefits, and value levers to demonstrate the value of moving systems to the cloud. Read the business case for Cloud
Architecture evaluation
Evaluation of architecture readiness for cloud adoption against a reference framework. The assessment will be conducted with interviews, workshops, and review of architecture documentation.
Service strategy definition
Facilitated definition of a coherent Service Delivery Strategy intended to inform prioritisation of cloud migrations and adoption activities.
Application portfolio assessment
High-level functional and technical evaluation of applications for readiness for cloud hosting based on NHS England frameworks and blueprints.
Workload migration assessment
Multi-stage, iterative process to gain an understanding of the application portfolio and the migration strategies that can be applied. First stage of migration planning.
Architecture support
Engagement services
Initial engagement of application team
Structured workshop with the application team to capture their requirement and begin planning their migration path
Design workshop
Structured design sessions facilitating solution design for new demand using Cloud platforms
Service and solution architecture products translate business requirements into technology solutions and demand for specific cloud and CCoE services.
Vendor architecture support for onboarding new services
NHS England has access to pre-sales technology support services from the Cloud Service Providers under the enterprise agreements.
This service allows the application teams to access technical architects from the vendors to support with designs and planning of migrations and enhancements to services.
Advice on meeting non-functional requirements
Advisory service to support application teams to achieve compliance with operational service readiness criteria and non-functional requirements for workloads which are moved to the cloud.
