Service description

The workload migration assessment provides an understanding of the application portfolio and how it can be migrated to the cloud.

More specifically it:

  • identifies the migration strategies that can be applied
  • quantifies the effort, cost, dependencies, and risks to execute migrations
  • informs the overall migration strategy, business case and plans
Delivery process
  • The process starts with a rapid discovery and assessment. This is a top-down approach that takes existing trust knowledge and quickly determines a scope, strategy and domain grouping across an application portfolio.
  • Using a decision tree, existing application portfolio data is mapped to migration strategies, this helps determine scope for further data discovery.
  • Applications are grouped by capability domain to understand the application architecture.
  • In parallel, a bottom-up assessment of trust hosting infrastructure and application deployments will take place utilising tooling to obtain detailed infrastructure, application and network data.
  • This data will join the initial application portfolio to enhance application attribute information.
  • A more complete decision tree and tooling are used to produce the second iteration of strategy mapping and application grouping, along with migration wave plans, total migration costs and a business case for migration.

Phase-wise sequence of migration activities over time to aid understanding of timescale and effort required to complete migration.
