Managing credential requests
How to respond to staff member requests to provide credentials through the Digital Staff Passport service.
Log onto the NHS Digital Staff Passport employer’s portal using your email address and password.
Note: for extra security, multi-factor authentication (MFA) has been added to the Digital Staff Passport login process. Read our user guide on logging in with MFA.
If any staff members have requested credentials, it will appear as a category next to either the 'Staff Passports' or 'Reviewed Passports' section of the DSP home screen. Select 'View' next to the message to see all outstanding requests.
Select the user’s name to review their request for credentials.
A banner will appear on the main page of a user profile to indicate that they have requested credentials. Select 'Review credential requests'.
If the staff member has not been linked to ESR, you will be prompted to enter their ESR assignment number.
If the user already has an ESR number recorded, an automatic check of ESR data will take place. Select 'Provide credentials' to continue.
A list of all credential requests will be displayed. You can choose to provide or reject the request for each credential. Once complete, select 'Continue'.
Note: if you choose to reject a request, you must provide a reason.
You'll see a confirmation screen, listing all the credentials that will be provided and those that you've rejected. Select 'Yes, continue with this selection' and then 'Continue' to proceed.
You'll see a message that you have reviewed the requests.
Set up credentials to be issued automatically
Senior Portal Administrators can set up the employer portal to automatically provide credentials to all staff passports when new information is added to ESR. The credentials will be automatically provided to staff at around 11.00am each day.
For more information, see the guidance on providing credentials.
