Automated registrations

You can connect Register with a GP surgery with some third-party suppliers to automate patient registrations. This is called robotic process automation (RPA).

How to set up automated registrations

  1. Select a supplier that offers this feature and is compatible with the Register with a GP surgery service
  2. Create an agreement with the supplier
  3. Agree to pay the supplier to provide the service
  4. Work with the supplier to connect it to the service and your clinical system

How RPA works

When a patient submits a registration through the service, we:

  • email a PDF of the registration data to your practice
  • send a JSON file of the registration data to your RPA provider via the NHS Message Exchange for Social Care and Health (MESH)

Your RPA supplier can use this JSON file to support automated registrations.

You will need to give consent for the supplier to process this data.

Suppliers that offer this feature

The following suppliers are compatible with our service:

  • GP Automate
  • Healthtech 1
  • Medicus Health (Medicus)
  • MyBotGP (JifJaff)

You should speak with the RPA supplier and any current clinical system suppliers to check if this solution will work for you.

If you are taking part in the patient registration data transfer pilot

We are running a pilot that tests direct integration between the Register with a GP surgery service and your clinical systems.

Patients who meet the pilot criteria will automatically have a record created in your clinical systems. Any additional information that is automated via your RPA provider, such as a local health form, will not be affected.

All other registrations will be processed using your RPA solution.

Information for suppliers

NHS England facilitates RPA solutions with assured suppliers to help GP practices take advantage of the time-saving benefits this offers.

We provide ingestible data in a JSON format that is compatible for all RPA suppliers. These suppliers must create local agreements with practices to offer their solution.

Suppliers will need to set up a MESH mailbox to receive this data.

Email our support team for assistance with your MESH Mailbox application and to learn more.
