Improving the visibility of the service on your website

Making the link to the Register with a GP surgery service easier to find on your website will help improve patient access to primary healthcare services. It will also lower the number of registration-related queries your practice or surgery handles.

Follow the advice below to add your unique registration link and supporting text to both your homepage and registration page.

On your homepage, make sure the link to the ‘Register at the practice’ landing page is clear and easy to see without patients scrolling down the page.  

The button text should use an active voice such as: 

• 'Register at our surgery' 
• 'Register as a patient'

On the button, refer to the online registration form. This will allow people to know what action they will take when they click on the link.

You should:

• clearly explain the registration process, how long it would take and what would happen next 
• provide information for patient registering children or for non-speaking English patient  
• let patients out of the catchment area know that they can still register with your surgery
• add catchment map to your register to your GP landing page
