Rejecting a registration
Learn about the reasons you can refuse to register a patient.
Reasons to refuse to register a patient
You can refuse to register a patient if they:
-
lives outside of the surgery catchment area
-
has been removed from the surgery they have tried to register with
-
sent an application but you are not taking on any new patients
If you decide not to accept a patient, you should tell them in writing within 14 days. Follow your surgery's relevant process.
The service does not tell patients automatically if their registration has not been successful.
If you are part of the registration data transfer pilot
You still need to review patient records transferred into your clinical systems, even if a record has been automatically created for the patient because they meet the pilot criteria.
You will not be able to reject these types of registrations. You will need to follow your standard processes for removing them,
Find out about the GP IT pilot for patient registration data transfer.
