Maternity and Neonatal Data Hub

This data hub is designed to signpost to a variety of resources containing maternity and neonatal data and information, and contains links from a wide range of public, private, and third sector organisations. It's also the front door for accessing Maternity Services Data Set (MSDS) analysis and information about NHS-funded maternity services in England.

The sections below contain links to reports, data files, dashboards, and clinical guidance. Links with the padlock icon can only be accessed using valid login details.

National Maternal and Perinatal Audit (NMPA)

Reports, data, and interactive charts produced by the National Maternity and Perinatal Audit (NMPA) - which is a large scale audit of the NHS maternity services across England, Scotland and Wales. We include some NMPA data in the National Maternity Indicators (NMI) in our National Maternity Dashboard.

National Neonatal Audit Programme (NNAP)

A national clinical audit run by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health that aims to help neonatal units improve care for babies and their families by identifying areas for quality improvement in relation to the delivery and outcomes of care. Their online Interactive reporting tool provides access to the audit results.

National Pregnancy in Diabetes Audit

Annual publication using audit data about women with diabetes who become pregnant, published in Excel and CSV files.

Guidance specifying the relevant data fields, values and clinical codes to be used by MSDS v2.0 data submitters, for the various process and outcome indicators specified in the Saving babies lives' care bundle.

Regional Reporting Tool

A data-driven quality surveillance monitoring tool within FutureNHS which presents nationally sourced operational data to support regions, ICBs and providers. On the FutureNHS platform, therefore you will need a FutureNHS or NHS Mail account to access it.

The Model Health System

A data-driven improvement tool that enables NHS health systems and trusts to benchmark quality and productivity. Users need to register to access the tool.

Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT)

A national NHS England programme designed to improve the treatment and care of patients through in-depth review of services, benchmarking, and presenting a data-driven evidence base to support change. GIRFT examines how things are currently being done and how they could be improved.

Making Data Count

A workspace to facilitate the sharing of knowledge and experience between the Making Data Count team and interested information professionals. On the FutureNHS platform, therefore you will need a FutureNHS or NHS Mail account to access it.
