New Deferred Payment Agreements

In 2022-23 there were 2,370 new DPAs agreed, of which 355 were loan style.

Top-up information was reported for 2,370 new DPAs within this reporting year, of which 80.4% (1,905) were provided with no top-up.

What is a DPA top-up?

If you choose to enter a care home costing more than your personal budget, you can top-up any additional residential care payments from your own resources.

A DPA was not provided for 1,090 requests, of which 43.0% (470) were due to client reasons.

Reasons for the request (where the request resulted in a DPA being provided) were reported against 2,310 new DPAs in 2022-23, and 48.1% (1,110) of these were bridging loans to allow for the sale of the client’s property.

Regional analysis

Of the total new DPAs agreed in 2022-23, the West Midlands region agreed 560 new DPAs, which was the highest figure reported regionally, accounting for 23.7% of the national total.

East Midlands agreed 80 (3.4%) new DPAs during the reporting year, which was the lowest number reported regionally.

The total value of the new DPAs agreed during 2022-23 was £54.6 million and the average value of the new DPAs was £23,000.

Yorkshire and The Humber reported the lowest average value at £15,000 compared with London which reported the highest (£32,000).
