Errors following publication of results

1. In December 2023, South West London and St George's Mental Health NHS Trust advised that they had incorrectly reported "Clinical service incidents caused by estates and infrastructure failure related to Critical Infrastructure Risk" figures. This was due to reporting all incidents rather than solely those involving a delay in clinical services. The amended figures are shown in the table below.

Site Name Published Value Amended Value
Tolworth Hospital 15 0
Springfield University Hospital 72 1
Queen Mary's Hospital 1 0
Jubilee Health Centre East 8 0
Wilson Hospital 1 0
St John's Health Centre 1 0
Talk Wandsworth 3 0

2. In January 2024, Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust advised that they had incorrectly reported their figure for "Income from car parking - patients and visitors" as -£1,826,514.  The amended value is -£1,355,381.

These errors do not have impact on the national ERIC figures so we will not be revising any publication products. The current file versions are all version 1 (unnumbered), except for the Excel report tables  (version 2).

Errors identified from review of ERIC data

15th October 2024: Following an extensive review in 2023-2024, trusts were contacted by NHS England and invited to reconsider the values they had submitted for various fields in their 2022/23 ERIC return. We are in the process of documenting these, and considering whether revisions should be made to the dataset (it is normally our policy to report ERIC errors, but not to make corrections unless the national figures are affected significantly). We have documented the full set of errors on our release page here: ERIC 2022/23 Amendments to published data - please ensure you refer to these if you use any data for these fields.

The two fields with the most significant changes to national figures were:

  • Investment to reduce backlog maintenance - Critical infrastructure risk (£) - difference to national figure of -198,298,572 (-24.43% change to the original value from  227,409,756 to 29,111,184)
  • Investment to reduce backlog maintenance - Non-critical infrastruture risk (£) - difference to national figure of -257,786,400 (-45.25% change to the original value from 811,809,594 to 613,511,022)

Whilst it is normally our policy to revise any figures in the dataset that have a signifcant effect at national level, it was decided not to in this case because of the length of time that had passed since publication (a new release was imminent). Instead, we updated and clearly marked the revised 2022/23 figures in the data report tables for the 2023/24 release.
