Summary Report - Commissioning Region

Summary of proportion of outpatient attendances and appointments by commissioning region

London had the highest outpatient activity with both the highest number of appointments (26.0 million or 21.3% of the national total) and attendances (19.3 million or 20.2% of the national total).

The South West region had both the lowest number of appointments (10.6 million or 8.7%) and attendances (8.5 million or 8.9%).

The Midlands region had the highest proportion of outpatient appointments that were attended (80.0%), while London had the lowest proportion of appointments that were attended (74.1%).


Summary of Proportion of 1st attendances and subsequent attendances by Commissioning Region, 2021-22

London had the highest number of first attendances (5.9 million or 19.7% of the national total) and subsequent attendances (13.4 million or 20.5% of the national total) in 2021-22.

The South West region had the lowest number of first attendances (2.7 million or 9.1% of the national total) and subsequent attendances (5.8 million or 8.8% of the national total).

The North West region had the highest number of subsequent attendances per first attendance (2.6) while the South East region had the lowest (1.8).
