Summary report - outpatient activity by index of multiple deprivation and ethnicity
In contrast to 2020-21, the IMD decile with the highest first attendance rate in 2021-22 was ‘less deprived 10-20%’ with 54,215 first attendances per 100,000 people.
The ‘more deprived 30-40%’ group had the lowest rate with 50,655 first attendances per 100,000 people.
For 'all attendances', the IMD decile with the highest attendance rate in 2021-22 was ‘less deprived 10-20%' with 172,544 total attendances per 100,000 people. The ‘more deprived 30-40%’ group had the lowest rate with 160,215 total attendances per 100,000 people.
The ‘more deprived 10-20%’ group had the highest volume of 1st attendances (3.1 million) and the highest volume of all attendances (9.7 million).

The ‘Other’ ethnic group recorded both the highest rate of 1st attendances (34.1%) as a proportion of all attended appointments within the ethnic group and the highest rate of 1st attendances by population with 119,431 for every 100,000 people.
First attendances as a percentage of all attendances were broadly similar between the other ethnic groups but attendances per 100,000 population were somewhat lower for people of mixed ethnicity, at just over 28,149 per 100,000 population.
