Breakdowns relating to new commissioning structures

Breakdowns relating to the new commissioning structures (ICB, Sub ICB, Commissioning Region) which superseded legacy commissioning structures (STP, CCG, Commissioning Region) on 1 July 2022 were initially omitted from this publication as the derivations necessary to support reporting under the new commissioning structures had not been completed at the time of publication.

This work has since been completed.  The following files now contain breakdowns relating to the new commissioning structures, and are available for download under 'Resources':

  • MHSDS Monthly: Performance July 2022 MHSDS Data File V3
  • MHSDS Monthly: Performance July 2022 Restrictive Interventions V2
  • MHSDS Monthly: Performance May 2022 to July 2022 Access and Waiting Times Reference Tables V2

There is a further file

  • MHSDS Monthly: Time Series Data for Selected MHSDS Measures, April 2016 to Performance July 2022 CSV

which has not yet been updated with July 2022 data relating to the new commissioning structures.  This CSV file underpins the Mental Health Services Time Series Dashboard which is also yet to be updated with Sub ICB data for July 2022 and beyond.

Once ICB/Sub ICB/Commissioning Region breakdowns have been produced retrospectively for all months that are currently outstanding, these outputs will be updated also.

NHS Digital does not intend to release breakdowns relating to the new commissioning structures for Provisional August 2022 or Provisional September 2022.  These breakdowns will, however, be made available in due course for Performance August 2022 and Performance September 2022.

As the data for each of these months is impacted by the cyber incident described below to a much greater extent than for July 2022, Sub ICB data for Performance August 2022 onwards will be available via a supplementary ICB and Sub ICB publication link available via the main series page rather than directly from the respective monthly publication pages.

Impact of Cyber Incident on MHSDS data submissions

Unfortunately, a number of providers of MHSDS data have been affected by a recent cyber incident.  NHS Digital has actively worked with these providers to understand how best to resolve any data submission issues that may have occurred as a result.  We also continue to encourage affected providers to reach out to [email protected] as well as their regional Emergency Preparedness, Resilience and Response (EPRR) teams.

As of Performance July 2022, the impact on monthly MHSDS data appears to be quite limited.  There may be a greater impact on subsequent months’ publications so we will monitor this closely and introduce contingency plans if required.  No changes to submission processes will be introduced while service providers are actively dealing with this issue.

Providers will also have the opportunity to resubmit MHSDS data for any month between April 2022 and February 2023, up until the final 2022/23 multiple submission window model (MSWM) deadline in May 2023, and this should serve to further mitigate the issue.  This will then feed into the 'End of Year Final' data made available shortly afterwards.

Issue with MHS108

Please note, an issue was identified with MHS108 - Number of people accessing community mental health services for adults and older adults with serious mental illness who received 2 or more care contacts within the RP (this is based on a 12 month rolling RP). This data has now been corrected and reissued.  NHS Digital apologises for any inconvenience caused.
