Summary
This publication primarily covers contraceptive activity taking place at dedicated Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) services in England, as recorded in the Sexual and Reproductive Health Activity Dataset (SRHAD), a mandated collection for all providers of NHS SRH services. Data from GP settings and pharmacies is not included (unless otherwise stated). People attend SRH services for a variety of reasons, but the main focus of this report is contraception.

1.40 million contacts with SRH services for reasons of contraception
Down 3% compared to 2017/18 (1.45 million), and down 25% compared to 2014/15 (1.87 million)
44% uptake of long acting reversible contraceptives
A proportion that has been rising steadily over the last ten years
39% uptake of the contraceptive pill
Down from 45% in 2014/15, but still the most popular type of method
36% fall in emergency contraceptive items provided over the last ten years
Also a 51% fall in those prescribed at other locations in the community (2008 to 2018)
