Statistics on NHS Stop Smoking Services in England - April 2021 to March 2022

Official statistics

Addition of data quality note

We have been made aware of a data quality issue affecting the breakdown of pharmacotherapy data for Kirklees LA.  Whilst the overall number of people setting a quit date and the number of successful quitters is correct, the breakdown is incorrect.  This will also affect the England and Yorkshire and the Humber region data as well for these breakdowns (included in Part 3 and tables 4.4 & 4.5 within the supporting data tables).

Part 4 - Data Quality

Data Quality

This section presents information for a variety of data quality measures for 2021/22 and across the previous 11 years.  For further information about data quality measures, please consult the Data Quality Statement, which accompanies this publication.

Proportion of unknown data items

The proportion of quit attempts where the outcome is unknown is 17% in 2021/22, which is the second lowest level in the last 12 years, after rising from 16% in 2020/21. Before then, it has decreased annually from 23% in 2014/15.

The proportion of records with a missing socio-economic code is 11% in 2021/22 which is slightly higher than 2020/21 (9%) but lower than 2010/11 (16%).

Non-submitting local authorities

14 LAs did not submit any data for 2021/22. Some non-submitting LAs will still be running Stop Smoking Services but not submitting data. Some LAs will no longer be running Stop Smoking Services. It is not possible to ascertain which category these non-submitting LAs fall into. The non-submitting LAs in 2021/22 are: Birmingham, Bolton, City of Bristol, Cheshire East, Cheshire West and Chester, Cumbria, Ealing, East Riding of Yorkshire, Gloucestershire, Hartlepool, Shropshire, Trafford, Wolverhampton and York.

No estimates have been made for the LAs not submitting data.
