How to link your Care Identity to your DoS account
Instructions for Directory of Services (DoS) users on how to link their Care Identity to their DoS account.
Overview
Before you start
Before following the instructions in this guide, you must have:
- a DoS account in your own name. If you are currently using a shared account (one used my multiple people), you need to request your own individual DoS account
- an active Care Identity (CIS2). You can apply for a Care Identity from CIS2 if you don't have one, or if you need to reactivate it
Once you have your own DoS account and a Care Identity (CIS2), follow the instructions in How to link your Care Identity (CIS2) to your Directory of Services (DoS) account.
A Care Identity (CIS2) cannot be linked to a shared DoS account (a DoS account used by multiple users).
You must have your own Care Identity (CIS2) and DoS account before linking.
How to link your Care Identity (CIS2) to your Directory of Services (DoS) account
1. From the DoS login page, select the “log in with your DoS account to link your Care Identity” link.

2. On the next page, you will be asked to log in with your DoS account details. You must use your own DoS account, not a DoS account used by multiple users.

3. We have provided instructions on how to get a DoS account and an NHS Care Identity. Once you have your own DoS account and Care Identity, select Continue.

4. Select the Log in with my Care Identity button to link your account.
You will not be able to edit your personal details until you have linked your DoS account to your Care Identity (CIS2).

5. If you have logged in using your own login details (not shared account details), select Proceed on the warning screen.
If you have logged in using a shared account, select Cancel and follow the instructions in the Before you start section of this page.

6. Select your preferred login method from the list. The login method you choose will be the method you use each time you log in to DoS using Care Identity (CIS2).
View more information about CIS2 authentication methods.

7. Use your Care Identity (CIS2) username and password to log in to Care Identity (CIS2).
Use your Care Identity login credentials, not your DoS login details.
If you have forgotten your Care Identity login details, use the Forgot password link to reset them.
8. The next set of instructions you receive will come from your Care Identity and will be specific to the authentication method you selected.

10. Select the Log in with my Care Identity button and follow the instructions to check you can access DoS with your Care Identity (CIS2).

When you have successfully linked your Care Identity (CIS2) to DoS, you will no longer be able to log in using your DoS username and password. You must log in using your Care Identity (CIS2).
Further information
Linking Care Identities to DoS will not change how DoS works.
The process for requesting a new DoS account remains the same. New users will be given a DoS username and password. They will then need to follow the linking instructions in the How to link your Care Identity (CIS2) to your Directory of Services (Dos) account section to link their Care Identity to their DoS account.
