How to link your Care Identity to your DoS account

Instructions for Directory of Services (DoS) users on how to link their Care Identity to their DoS account.

We are implementing multi-factor authentication (MFA) on 23 April 2025. It will replace your login to Directory of Services (DoS).

You will have until 30 June 2025 to change the details from your current DoS login details to MFA.

Before you start

Before following the instructions in this guide, you must have:

A Care Identity cannot be linked to a DoS account that is shared by multiple people. This means login details that are shared by multiple people.

You must have your own Care Identity and individual DoS account set up before proceeding with the steps below.

Changes to the DoS login screen

You will see a new 'Log in with my Care Identity' button under the existing DoS username and password login details.

You can continue to use your username and password to access DoS (and reset your username or password) until you link your Care Identity.

You have until 30 June 2025 to link your Care Identity.

Please use your Care Identity login credentials here, not your DoS login details.

If you’ve forgotten your Care Identity login details, use the 'Forgot password' link to reset them.

7. Follow the CIS2 instructions to complete this stage. The instructions here will depend on the login method you chose.

8. On successful linking, you will be logged out from your current DoS session and taken back to the log in screen.

9. Click the 'Log in with my Care Identity' button and follow the instructions to check you can access DoS with your Care Identity.

When you have successfully linked your Care Identity to DoS, you will no longer be able to log in via your previous DoS username and password. You will only be able to log in using your Care Identity.

Further information

Linking Care Identities to DoS will not cause any functional changes to DoS.

The process for requesting a new DoS account remains the same. New users will be given a DoS username and password. They will then need to follow the instructions above to link their Care Identity to their DoS account.

How to resolve

While linking your CIS2 account, you may be timed out of the session if there is no activity on the form. If this happens, you will be logged out of the session and need to start the linking process again.

You could set aside time to go through the process without distractions.

If you cannot log in using your Care Identity

Unable to log in with Care Identity screen

How to resolve

This error means you will need to log in to DoS using your DoS username and password.

On the DoS homepage, you will need to click on the ‘Account >>’ link, in the top right-hand corner of the page.

The Account page will tell you if your DoS account has been successfully linked to your Care Identity.

If your Care Identity has not been successfully linked, you will need to follow the linking instructions above.

You should also check that the:

  • Care Identity you linked is in your name
  • DoS account you are using is not a shared account, and used by other people
