Find out about NHS e-Referral Service (e-RS) releases.

Release 15.4 – Friday 13 June 2025

1. Layout changes to service definer screens

Many e-RS screens are being updated to improve the experience of our users. The following changes have been made to make the screens more modern and accessible for service definers.

  1. The format of the service definer Workgroup tab and associated screens has been updated.
  2. The current ‘Organisation Details’ tab has been renamed to ‘Additional requirements’ and the option to add ‘Aliases’ was removed, due to minimal usage.

Review the news article for the full details of these changes.

2. Patient NHS number on providers Advice and Guidance Requests worklist

As a result of recent collaboration with professional users of e-RS Advice and Guidance (A&G), which identified potential improvements, this update introduced the NHS number on the Advice and Guidance Requests worklist for providers.

This information is displayed in the last column and also shown on any worklist exports.

3. Defect fix

The May e-RS system update initiated an issue where some referrals were appearing on practices’ ‘Incomplete UBRNs’ worklist within e-RS and couldn't be removed even though they had been processed. This update removed the processed UBRNs from the worklist.

Review the details of this issue.

Release 15.3 - Friday 9 May 2025

1. Changes to screen layouts for referrers and BMS admin users

Continuing with the screen layout changes for referring and BMS admin users, the following screens have been updated in this release when:

  • using worklists
  • searching for services
  • shortlisting services
  • booking, deferring, triaging, rebooking referrals
  • creating and managing advice and guidance requests
  • adding calendar view when booking appointments

Users are urged to review the supporting videos and information available on the news article.

These screens have only changed for users logged into e-RS with referring and BMS roles only. There are no changes to the layout for users logging into e-RS with service provider or other roles.

Service definers: when referrers search for services, the option to search by clinical terms has been removed. Based on this, service definers should consider whether they wish to continue to add and review their clinical terms when creating and maintaining their services.

Users are able to join a drop-in session after the changes have been implemented to ask any questions. Review the e-RS notification issued on 29 April for further information.

Release 15.2 - Friday 11 April 2025

This update introduced system background changes to support the running and development of e-RS. These changes did not impact end users.
