Entering birth details into another system

The Birth Notification Application has a number of possible outputs that may assist you in entering the new-born details to non-PDS compliant systems.

The first method is to use the printed result of the birth notification process. This printed result will contain all of the entered details for the birth and the NHS Number allocated by the PDS.

It is possible to collate these printed birth notifications and use them in a back office procedure to enter the birth details onto your local system. This could be done singly or in bulk, and performed when time and necessity permit.

The second method would be to extract the details from a birth notification. The extract will either be for a single birth notification if the export was taken from the Birth Notification Response screen, or for multiple birth notifications if the export was taken from the List Birth Notification screen.

This comma delimited file (.csv format) can then be used as a basis to enter details onto the local system. Where local IT services allow, or if the facility can be provided by the local system supplier, this file may be used as the source for an automatic upload to the local system.

The .csv extract also has status of the birth notification and the Saved/Notified date.
