The aims the trusts had in implementing IoT are listed below.

Ensure patient safety

How IoT could support the move to single rooms and free up time to care for patients.

Increase patient activation

Increase patient knowledge, skills and confidence in managing their own health and care by encouraging self-management and providing access to education, coaching and peer support.

Improve staff experience

To provide an improved working environment with reduced noise and improved lighting and give staff the tools, information and support needed for effective delivery of care.

Reduce health inequalities and support digital inclusion

Support digitally disempowered communities to access and take advantage of digital tools and opportunities that help improve care and health outcomes.

Reduce waste

Use technology to reduce energy and consumable costs and maximise equipment lifecycles to help the trusts meet net zero targets.

Improve operational efficiency

To reduce the number of manual and menial tasks staff are required to do and increase the number of patients that can be safely cared for per staff member.

Enhance management information

Accurate and targeted data gathering via IoT to provide the environmental data needed for driving operational efficiencies, improving patient flow and reducing operational costs.
