Part of CCGs/Sub ICB Locations impacted by boundary changes
Actions for you to take
Planning
ODS will supply reconfiguration guidance in which we recommend you complete an initial Impact Assessment.
We would also recommend taking the ODS timeline above and using it as a basis for creating a comprehensive timeline showing the key activities your CCG must complete in preparation for 1 July 2022 and sharing with ODS by emailing [email protected].
Review planned relationship changes
CCGs are asked to review planned relationship changes and identify exceptions.
PCN to CCG relationship changes
To reflect the July 2022 boundary changes, the following PCNs will require a change to their commissioning relationship.
PCNs where the PCN postcode* held by ODS places them within an LSOA that is moving from one CCG boundary to another.

GP practice, pharmacy and dental relationships to CCGs (for information only)
The NHS Business Services Authority (BSA) maintain Prescribing Cost Centre codes (including GP Practices). They supply them to ODS for onward publication in Organisation Reference Data (ORD). Prescribing Cost Centre codes that are located within one of the impacted LSOA areas will require a CCG relationship change, to reflect the CCG boundary changes.
The BSA NHS Prescription Service have already received the boundary change summary, which will contain all the changes to primary care, dental and pharmacy commissioning relationships resulting from boundary changes. CCG authorised signatories will not have to inform the BSA or ODS of boundary changes or formally approve the Prescribing Cost Centre codes (located within an impacted LSOA) which require a relationship change. BSA have already completed the mapping activity and have begun the process of reaching out to affected CCGs where appropriate to confirm.
Any queries or exceptions relating to these changes can be raised by emailing [email protected].
Site codes
An organisation may require site codes under their ODS code for other locations from which it will operate, for example additional offices from which the CCG’s workforce are located and will therefore be required to report or record activity against within a system (Estates Returns or HSCN Connections).
Sites affected by CCG renaming
ODS have identified around 50 CCG site codes (across all CCGs) that currently have ‘CCG’ in the site name. As a result of the renaming of CCGs from July 2022, ODS will be removing this reference from all site names. For example:
Site Code: 99CAA Current Name: NHS NORTH TYNESIDE CCG HQ
Site Code: 99CAA Name from July 22: NHS NORTH TYNESIDE HQ
You can check whether you have any site codes with ‘CCG’ in the name via the ODS Portal. Enter your CCG code into the organisation search screen and expand the Clinical Commissioning Group Site section.
To request alternative adjustments to the names of current site codes that contain CCG your registered OC1 (refer to the contacts section) should complete the amend tab within the ODS site code request form and submitting it to [email protected] before 30 June 2022,
Site code amendments due to boundary changes
A list of current site codes for your CCG is available via the ODS Portal. Enter your CCG code into the Organisation Search screen and expand the ‘Clinical Commissioning Group Site’ section (see screenshot above).
These site codes should be reviewed to identify any that may need to be closed under the current CCG code (where the boundary will be reduced), and/or created under the Sub ICB Location/former CCG whose boundary will be increased.
To request that site codes be closed, created or amended, your registered OC1 must complete an ODS Site Code Request form and submit it to [email protected] before 30 June 2022. in readiness for the organisational change.
Confirm contacts
ODS maintain and publish information about key people in your organisation and we would like to take the opportunity to review these details.
OC1 registration
Organisation contacts (OC1s) are nominated individuals in an organisation responsible for requesting any new site codes or amendments required to their organisation’s existing ODS codes (name and address updates or site closures). OC1s are ODS’ authoritative source for their organisation.
Download the OC1 form, for registration of any additional OC1s.It must be completed by the current OC1 for the CCG. Please ensure that you have;
- nominated OC1 contacts for the ICB
- nominated OC1 contacts for the Sub ICB Location or former CCG
If you are unsure who your existing OC1 contact(s) are please raise a call by emailing [email protected]
Registration of Caldicott Guardian, Senior Information Risk Owner and Information Asset Owner
ODS maintain and publish the Caldicott Guardian (CG), Senior Information Risk Owner (SIRO) and Information Asset Owner (IAO) registers. The registers, information about the respective roles and the forms to complete to update an organisation’s registrations are available to download.
