Before you start

To create a new concept map you will need to be logged in with an author role.

When you create a concept map the source and target Code Systems and Value Sets must be specified.

You may find it useful to also read how to create a code systems and value sets.

This guidance explains how to create a concept map using Snapper:Author. 


How to Create a new concept map in Snapper:Author

You can use the Snapper:Map mapping tool within Snapper to create concept maps.  Snapper:map can be accessed from the Snapper:map button in the top right hand corner of the Snapper main screen. If you are using Snapper:Map for the first time we recommend you watch the mapping tour within Snapper:Map before you start.

1. Click the plus sign on the left next to the FHIR concept maps.

2. In the pop up, fill your metadata and click done

3. Enter the details of your source and target code systems and value sets. You must enter Source code system, source value set, target code system and target value set

4. You can add codes to the concept map by following these steps. 

5. Manually enter the mapping source and target codes one by one.  Use the table at the bottom of the screen to record the details.

6. Upload codes using a csv or tsv file. There is an import wizard to allow you to import source and/ or target codes Snapper will extract labels from the code systems specified.

7. Add in target codes by searching the target code system using the search bar on the right, and drag and dropping the results into the table.

8. Update the relationship type for each mapping line as required.

9. Once your map is complete, enter any additional metadata in the additional metadata tab

11.  In the upload to FHIR server tab, depending on your permissions, you can

  • validate your concept map
  • download your concept map in a JSON representation
  • upload your concept map 
  • syndicate your concept map (require approver permissions)
