Structured education bulk upload guidance for the Clinical Audit Platform (CAP)
This guidance is for structured education providers and gives guidance on how to submit data for the Core National Diabetes Audit (NDA through the bulk file upload for recording education attendance and to help structured education providers to complete the NDA education spreadsheet.
The National Diabetes Audit (NDA) is commissioned by the Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership (HQIP) as part of the National Clinical Audit and Patient Outcomes Programme (NCAPOP) and is delivered by NHS England, in collaboration with Diabetes UK.
The NDA collects data from primary, secondary care and structured education providers, bringing the care records together. For a comprehensive picture of diabetes care it is imperative that both primary and secondary care services providing routine diabetes care take part in the NDA.
The Structured Education (SE) Portal is a subset of the main National Diabetes Audit. It was created to record the work of structured education providers which has so far gone unreported in the NDA.
As only certain organisations need to provide data on structured education, previous submissions using the NDA Core platform where found to be incomplete. Many of the data fields were not relevant to the organisations which caused confusion. The NDA SE platform was developed to help these organisations submit data more easily and increase data quality.
Users should only request access and submit data to the Structured Education portal if they are:
- organisations in England which only provide structured education services (and no other specialist diabetes services or
- any organisations in Wales which provide structured education services
More information about the NDA is available.
Legal basis for data collection
NHS England has been instructed to establish and operate a system for the collection and analysis of the NDA. This type of instruction is commonly known as a Direction (under section 254 of the Health and Social Care Act 2012).
