The Allocate tab should only ever be used when you want to allocate an NHS Number for the mother. It should never be used to allocate for the baby. This is because using the Allocate functionality will only create an NHS Number; it will not notify the Office for National Statistics (ONS) or the e-Hearing Screening (eHS) program.
If you require an NHS Number for one or more babies then the birth notification process should be used. This will notify the appropriate parties.
You should remember that the aim of the process is to submit a birth notification and to receive the NHS Number for a baby, and that this results in the other interested parties being notified of the birth.
