Guide to creating referrals in Path to Live NHS e-Referral Service (e-RS)

This guide is to enable users of the Path to Live environments to create and manage their own referrals to facilitate testing or training. Under no circumstances should this guide be used for e-RS Referral administration within the Live environment.

This guide only covers the creation and management of referrals in the e-RS application, as each GP System has a different process for creating seamless referrals within the local system.

Guide to creating referrals in Path to Live NHS e-Referral Service (e-RS)

Prerequisites

In order to create referrals in e-RS, a smartcard with the Referring Clinician (B1101) or Referring Clinician Admin (B1102) activities on a relevant role (usually a GP) at the assigned GP Practice is required.

NHS numbers of patients registered at the same GP Practice as the GP Role being used, the patients must be associated with the practice rather than the specific GP. Additionally the patients must meet the criteria for the service, for example if the service is restricted by age or gender, the NHS number used to create a referral must be for a patient who meets the criteria, otherwise the service will not be displayed in the list of available services.

To manage appointments in e-RS, the Admin (B1103) can be used.

Finally, those wishing to book into specific services that they have created should make a note of the Clinical Term(s), Speciality, Clinic Type and Priority settings entered for the service and have these available when creating the referral.
