Current chapter – Search for records

Searching for records

Navigate to the patient search screen by clicking on patient search at the top tool bar or from the quick links on the home screen.

Type an NHS Number and click to search for a patient.

If the CWT system contains any existing records for this patient, they will be displayed in the resulting lists of records.

Break glass view

Sometimes you may search for patient records and in the resulting list you will see Break-glass View. This means that your organisation is not currently associated with this record.

The View option only appears if you or someone else from your organisation has submitted the record or if a site code belonging to your organisation has been included in the record.

The break glass view appears when you are not already associated with the record.

Cancer waiting times search screen

You can still see the full record using Break-glass view, but you will be asked if you want to continue and warned that this action will be audited. This is just to cover information governance rules about only accessing patient information where you have a legitimate reason to do so.

The confirm break glass view pop up box allows you to decide if you really do need to view this patient record or if you want to cancel.

Patient search results additional features

Search for a patient screen

You can create a new patient record by selecting create patient record.

The CWT record ID is a unique record ID created by the system.

The record provides details about the record so you can identify which one you want to keep. This may include date first seen and treatment start date.
