Data collection questions: Section 1
1.1
What was the total amount spent on third-party leadership and management development programmes and activities (ie. external training or courses, programmes, consultants, licenses) in the last financial year?
Please provide as accurate figure as possible from the previous financial year (April 2023 to March 2024). You may need to liaise with your management accountant to get access to this data.
The data should be for management and leadership development programmes only. Do not include spend on broader educational and training activities.
Leadership and management development includes any programmes and activities for aspiring or existing managers or leaders, at any level from entry-level to executive-level. The focus should be on programmes designed to develop management or leadership skills, knowledge or behaviours.
This might include the following, for example:
1. Leadership or management development courses, CPD, or events.
2. Leadership or management qualifications or apprenticeships.
3. Whole-board development programmes.
4. Career development support.
6. Coaching or mentoring for managers or leaders.
The data should not include any spend on specific clinical, specialist, or technical training, but it can include management or leadership training targeted at staff groups from specific specialisms or occupations (management training for nurses should be included).
Third-party refers to any supplier that your organisation contracts with directly for any of the services described above, and who receive payment for the services delivered. It might include, further or higher education providers, private training providers, consultants, and / or other public, charitable or NHS organisations, where there is a payment for services delivered.
This does not include any services delivered wholly in-house (or where there is an internal transfer of funds between departments within the same trust).
Please include all costs related to the provision of goods and services for management and leadership training and tuition, and consultancy.
If you do not have access to the data, please select “Information Not Available” and then the most appropriate response from the options available.
1.2
What is your forecasted spend on third-party leadership and management development programmes and activities (external training or courses, programmes, consultants, licenses) this financial year?
Please provide as accurate figure as possible, based on your forecasted spend for the current financial year (April 2024 to March 2025). Forecasted spend is the amount budgeted but might not yet be spent. You may need to liaise with your management accountant to get access to this data.
See the question for definitions of leadership and management development, and third parties.
If you do not have access to the data, please select “Information Not Available” and then the most appropriate response from the options available.
1.3
Does your organisation have a maximum budget per FTE, per annum, for specific leadership and management development programmes and activities?
Please indicate whether your organisation has a budget per FTE, per annum, and give the figure in the box provided. The figure is for management and leadership development programmes only, not broader educational and training activities.
If this varies, please provide the budget per staff group in the box provided.
If this figure has changed over time, please give the current or most recent figure.
The figure is for any learning and development, or educational and training activities related to leadership and management development.
