Business processes
Business processes
You may have to change some of the ways you work to make best use of the messages you will be receiving. This area of work is about understanding what your current processes are and ensuring that the introduction of new processes is as smooth as possible. Process mapping will enable you to create a visual picture of how the pathway currently works, capturing the reality of the process, exposing areas of duplication, waste, unhelpful variation and unnecessary steps.
What is an AS-IS process?
An “AS-IS” business process defines the current state of the business process in an organisation; in other words how you are operating as a service now without the introduction of NEMS. The reason behind putting together the current state process is to clarify exactly how the business process works today.
What is a TO-BE process?
A “T0-BE” business process defines the future state of a business process in an organisation. The reason behind putting together the future state process is to clarify how the business process will work, at some point in the future, once changes are made i.e. after the implementation of NEMS. The "AS-IS" and "To-BE" processes will help you to assess the level of change for your organisation and also the potential benefits and improvements.
Readiness data capture
To support your change, implementation and benefits planning, you may find it useful to conduct some data gathering. This will also support creation of AS IS and TO BE process maps. The main aim and purpose is to clearly define:
- how your services for child health are designed
- Skills mix of staff, number of staff
- Do you have an admin hub (for example Single Point of Access SPA) in place?
- how your service currently works
- work arounds you may have in place
- any current issues or barriers
- any gaps in your current ways of working
The following sections detail each individual message and set out the information that will be received electronically. The sections also give a sample ‘as is’ and ‘to be’ process and detail what benefits you can expect to realise.
