Part of Child Health Interoperability (CHI) implementation guide for child health information services
Connecting to Events Management System (EMS)
Connecting to EMS
Suppliers of IT systems supporting health visiting, school nursing, primary care and Child Health Information Services are in the process of testing their connectivity to EMS and becoming accredited to provide child health interoperability through their systems. Once they are accredited, they will offer you this service.
The service is intended to improve the availability of information and introduces improvements in how that information is distributed, removing or reducing the reliance on receiving paper notifications. The key change to your business process will be in not having to find or manually retrieve and re-key information but rather in acting on information received by your system in a timely manner.
Whilst your supplier will handle the technical aspects of connecting to the EMS, you will need to review how you find and use particular pieces of information now (called AS-IS processes) to understand how receiving these electronically into your systems can improve the way you work (called To-BE processes).
