Top tips

We have created a list of hints and tips that have been gathered through feedback from both suppliers and national healthcare implementing National Events Management (NEMS):

Things to do and consider
  • Make sure you know who your stakeholders are and ensure they are engaged early
  • Work closely with your suppliers who are keen to support and work alongside you through go live / deployment periods
  • Carry on using dual process until confidence levels increase
  • Participate in working groups and project groups in order to relay key project messages back to your teams. As questions, participate in meetings to understand how the changes will impact you and the way you deliver your service
  • Actively keep communicating with your staff and teams about the NEMS delivery and what it will mean for your service and cross working agencies that may be impacted
  • Be mindful that some of your business processes may not actually change and for a short period of time dual running and processing maybe required (until healthcare services are live with NEMS)
  • Be mindful that some releases for example vaccinations may be approached and deployed in stages/steps and depend on your supplier. Therefore, benefits may be seen or reached at different times/levels
  • Be mindful of the amount of work the project could generate for your admin effort. Think about funding early in the project in order to resource the team appropriately.
  • Ensure all lessons that have been learned along the way are captured using a project lessons learned template
  • Continue to process any interim processes that you have in place for any movers in children for Blood Spot (Failsafe) until all CHIS or health visitors are live with NEMS
  • Monitor, report, and communicate any improvements and benefits you observe (no matter how small, it is a great success)
  • Remember, there is never a silly question? Ask, ask and ask?
  • Celebrate the team’s success!
