Business processes

You may have to change some of the ways you work to make best use of the messages you will be receiving. This area of work is about understanding what your current processes are and ensuring that the introduction of new processes is as smooth as possible. Process mapping will enable you to create a visual picture of how the pathway currently works, capturing the reality of the process, exposing areas of duplication, waste, unhelpful variation and unnecessary steps.

What is an AS-IS process?

An AS-IS business process defines the current state of the business process in an organisation, how you are operating as a service now without the introduction of National Events Management (NEMS). The reason behind putting together the current state process is to clarify exactly how the business process works today.

What is a TO-BE process?

A TO-BE business process defines the future state of a business process in an organisation. The reason behind putting together the future state process is to clarify how the business process will work, at some point in the future, once changes are made for example, after the implementation of NEMS.

Readiness data capture

To support your change, implementation and benefits planning, you may find it useful to conduct some data gathering.  This will also support creation of AS-IS and TO-BE process maps. The main aim and purpose is to clearly define:

  • how your health visiting services are designed including skills mixes and numbers of staff
  • do you have an admin hub, for example a Single Point of Access (SPA) in place?
  • how your service currently works
  • workarounds you may have in place
  • identify issues or barriers
  • identify if there are any gaps in your current ways of working.

We have provided some of the information that will be received electronically and give a sample ‘AS-IS’ and ‘TO-BE’ process and detail what benefits you can expect to realise.
