A user’s role determines what they have permission to do on the SDE, and how much their account costs. There are three roles:

Data analyst

These users are also known as researchers or data scientists. They have access to the data allowed under their DSA through the virtual SDE platform. Data analysts cannot manage other users and each account is charged a monthly fee.

User manager

These users can manage other users and add new users to the SDE. User managers cannot access the virtual SDE platform, and they are not charged a monthly fee.

Both

This role can access data through the virtual SDE platform and manage and add new users. Users with this role must pay the same monthly fee as data analysts.

Account fees are charged for per agreement. For example, if an individual has an account under two different Data Sharing Agreements (DSAs), they will be charged for both accounts.

Accounts are charged for as soon as they have passed their induction assessments. For example, if a user passes their assessment in the middle of the month, they will still be charged for the full month.

For more information on monthly fees, visit charges to access the SDE (opens in a new window).

You can view the role assigned to each user on their user details page, and change this role by selecting Change role.

SDE change user role screen

On the change user role page, you will see an overview of each role and any associated charges. Select the role you would like to assign to the user and click Confirm role.

The user will receive an email with details of what they can and can’t do on the SDE with their new role.
