Part of National Care Records Service (NCRS) user guidance
Chargeable Status
NHS organisations have a restricted number of authorised officers, designated as Overseas Visitor Managers (OVMs), who have access to view information from immigration records to ascertain the eligibility of patients for free NHS hospital treatment. They also have additional access if necessary to modify the chargeable status of patients on the National Care Records Service.
Additionally, Overseas Visitor Managers (OVMs) with the RBAC code B0266 will be allowed edit access to the ‘chargeable status’ area of NCRS.
Viewing a patient’s Chargeable Status
The ‘chargeable status banner’ will be visible to all who can view a patient’s record via NCRS, but only those with RBAC code B0259 will be able to view the detail behind the ‘chargeable status banner’.
After searching for a patient, if a Home Office status or Overseas Visitor Management (OVM) record exists for that patient, the chargeable status banner will be visible at the top of that patient’s NCRS record.
See the example below. Note, these are test patients in a test environment.
Adding an Overseas Visitor Management (OVM) record for a patient
After searching for a patient, select Chargeable Status within the Patient tab.
If a Home Office Status exists for the patient, this information will be made available.
Click the link to add an OVM record.
Fill in the form to begin creating an overseas visitor management record for the patient.
Please ensure to fill in as much of the form as possible. Not all fields are mandatory.
When ready, click save changes.
You will be directed to a screen where you can review the information before submitting and confirming the changes.
On submission, the user will be presented with a confirmation, and the Chargeable Status banner will be visible for that patient.
