Part of Cancer staging guidance sheets
Multiple myeloma
Introduction
This is the data sheet for TNM 8th edition staging of multiple myeloma.
Revised international staging system (R-ISS)
Stage |
Description |
---|---|
Stage 1 |
Early-stage myeloma. Pts with ISS-1 (serum β2-microblobulin level <3.5 mg/L and serum albumin level ≥3.5 g/dL), no high-risk cytogenetic abnormalities in iFISH [such as del(17p) and/or t(4;14) and/or t(14;16)] and normal LDH levels (below the upper limit of normal). |
Stage 2 |
Intermediate-stage myeloma. Not R-ISS Stage 1 or Stage 3 |
Stage 3 |
Advanced myeloma. Pts with ISS-3 (serum β2-microglobulin level >5.5 mg/L) and either high-risk cytogenetic abnormalities in iFISH or elevated LDH levels. |
The R-ISS is based on the assessment of: beta 2-microglobulin (ß2-M), albumin, iFISH, (interphase fluorescence in situ hybridization) and LDH (lactate dehydrogenase) |
